Kadena hosts first-ever Chatan Town evacuation exercise

Masaharu Noguni, Chatan Town mayor and U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. James Hecker, 18th Wing commander, speak to tsunami evacuation exercise participants on Kadena Air Base, Japan, Nov. 5, 2014. Chatan Town residents participated in a mock tsunami in order to practice evacuating from low elevation areas near the Sunabe seawall to higher ground on Kadena. The exercise was organized in support of an agreement signed by Noguni and Hecker in April that allows local Okinawans access to Kadena in the event of a natural disaster.
