The mission of VMFA(AW)-553 is to conduct joint and combined aviation operations in order to support a Marine Air Ground Task Force commander's command and control, intelligence, fires, maneuver and force protection warfighting functions. The 909th ARS is stationed on Kadena Air Base, Japan, and is a vital component to the extended reach of U.S. and allied forces within the Pacific theater.
