Ray Sorton enlisted in the U.S. Navy after the Attack on Pearl Harbor and manned an anti-aircraft gun during the Battle of Midway, June 3-7, 1942. One of his opponents during the battle was Chisato Morita, Imperial Japanese Navy Midway Flying Corps commander.
