160922-F-YJ424-001 U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Austen Carroll, 31st Rescue Squadron pararescueman, brings up a downed pilot after an aircraft crash Sept. 22, 2016, in the Pacific Ocean. Once on scene, Carroll freefell about 10-feet from the helicopter into the water and immediately swam to the patient. While in the water he performed an initial assessment of the pilot to make sure he was ok to be pulled inside the helicopter.
