More than 400 members of Kadena's 353rd Special Operations Group practiced wartime skills needed to survive and operate during a recent exercise deployment to Korea.

"It's our first game of the season," said Col. Raymond Chapman, 353rd SOG commander. "We will continue to exercise and train and get even better. From this exercise we'll take our lessons learned and bring them back to home station and ensure that we apply them."

The group deploys with all of its equipment and people needed to operate at any location. This exercise, called Blue Horizon Operational Readiness Exercise 2007, will help prepared the group for its 2008 ORI.

This year's evaluators for the wartime scenarios were members from the Wisconsin Air National Guard located at Volk Field, Wis. The Guard members provided training in self-aid and buddy care, sweep and disaster preparedness before and during the deployment.

Wartime readiness skills during mortar attacks, chemical attacks and mass casualty scenarios were also tested and evaluated.
