Colonel Paul A Frantz

Col. Paul A. Frantz is the Commander, 18th Civil Engineer Group, Kadena Air Base, Japan. In this capacity, he leads the largest civil engineer organization in the U.S. Air Force, comprised of over 1,600 personnel, enabling decisive air and cyberspace capabilities in support of U.S. interests, the defense of Japan, and peace and stability throughout the Indo-Pacific. Col Morrison manages an annual operating budget in excess of $120 million, oversees all planning, design, construction, sustainment, and protection of over 5,000 facilities and related infrastructure, and serves as the executive agent for the largest military family housing operation in the Department of Defense. Additionally, he supports a population of nearly 18,000 Americans and more than 4,000 Japanese through the delivery of essential installation services to include environmental management, fire protection, aircraft crash and rescue, explosive ordinance disposal, disaster preparedness, and incident management.

Col. Frantz received his commission in 2001 after graduating from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. Since that time, he has served in a wide range of operational units, including aircraft equipment maintenance, civil engineer, emergency management, personnel and a provincial reconstruction team. Additionally, Col. Frantz has served more than 12 years overseas with tours in Central Asia, Europe and the Pacific.

Prior to assuming command of the 18th Civil Engineer Group, Col. Frantz served as the executive officer to the Defense Logistics Agency’s director or operations (J3), Fort Belvoir, Virginia. His previous commands include, Commander, 718th Civil Engineer Squadron, Kadena Air Base, Japan; Commander, 97th Civil Engineer Squadron, Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma; and Commander, Base Support Group Engineers, Camp HQ International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), Kabul, Afghanistan.
