Kadena Associate Units

The 353rd Special Operations Group is an element of the Air Force Special Operations Command, Hurlburt Field , Fla. The 750 Airmen of the group are organized into three flying squadrons, a maintenance squadron, a special tactics squadron and an operations support squadron. Five of the squadrons are located on Kadena, while the 31st Special Operations Squadron is located at Osan Air Base, South Korea . The flying squadrons operate three separate and uniquely different airframes: the MC-130P Combat Shadow, MC-130H Combat Talon II and, at Osan, the MH-53J Pave Low III helicopter.

The 750 people of Navy's Command Fleet Activities Okinawa provide logistic support and services to the U.S. Seventh Fleet's air, surface and subsurface units operating in the Western Pacific. CFAO also provides facilities and support to deployed P-3 Orion patrol squadrons flying sea-lane surveillance missions out of Kadena.

The more than 320 people of the 733rd Air Mobility Squadron manage all passengers and cargo traveling by air in and out of Kadena. This Air Mobility Command unit supports about 650 aircraft arrivals and departures every month, moving more than 12,000 passengers and nearly 3,000 tons of cargo.

Air Combat Command's 82nd Reconnaissance Squadron maintains aircraft; prepares combat-ready aircrews; and analyzes, processes, and disseminates intelligence data launch in support of RC-135V/W Rivet Joint, RC-135U Combat Sent and WC-135 Constant Phoenix missions flown in the Pacific Theater. Of special value to the Pacific Command and national command authorities, information obtained is used at all levels of the Department of Defense and within other government agencies. The squadron works closely with the 390th Intelligence Squadron.

Air Intelligence Agency's 390th Intelligence Squadron conducts information operations by providing tailored combat intelligence and assessing the security of friendly command, control, communication and computer systems to enhance warfighting survivability, situation awareness and targeting.

Air Force Materiel Command operates several organizations on Kadena.

100 people are assigned to Support Center Pacific, which performs depot-level maintenance on aircraft avionics, hydraulics, structures and engine components. Center technicians also perform two-level maintenance and operate a reparable processing center supply account for reparable items.

Detachment 3, 311th Human Systems Wing, is part of the Occupational and Environmental Health Directorate at Brooks Air Force Base, Texas . Detachment consultants provide environmental, public health and bioenvironmental engineering agencies throughout the Western Pacific with occupational health, industrial hygiene, environmental monitoring and analysis, entomology, and health physics support.

Detachment 44, San Antonio Air Logistics Center Aerospace Fuels Lab, operates and maintains a physical and chemical analytical laboratory that conducts quality control checks on petroleum products, chemicals and gases. It also assists with aircraft mishap investigations and other special project investigations within PACAF.

The 649th Combat Logistics Support Squadron provides highly-trained teams to augment operational PACAF units in accomplishing aircraft battle damage repair during war and contingencies.

Air Education And Training Command Instructors at Detachment 15, 372nd Training Squadron, provide a variety of specialized aircraft, equipment and munitions training for the 18th Wing, 353rd Special Operations Group, 733rd Air Mobility Support Squadron and 82nd Reconnaissance Squadron. The detachment also provides training for Air Force units in Hawaii , Guam , Alaska , Korea and mainland Japan , and periodically trains members of other services.

Detachment 624, Air Force Office of Special Investigations, is an element of AFOSI Region 6, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii . AFOSI provides criminal, fraud, counterintelligence, force protection threat and other special investigative services to Air Force commanders at Kadena.

With facilities at Kadena and Naha International Airport , PACAF's Detachment 3, Air Postal Squadron, serves as the Department of Defense's sole agency for air transport of military mail to and from Okinawa , and manages mail-related customs and inspections.

Detachment 1, 554th RED HORSE Squadron, is a dedicated team of instructors who provide current and relevant Silver Flag contingency skills training to Civil Engineer, Services, PERSCO, and Contracting military forces within PACAF. Unit members also conduct focused hands-on Mission Essential Equipment Training on unique field assets such as electrical generators and water purification units as well as provide technical assistance in commissioning newly constructed facilities and infrastructure throughout the command.

Detachment 233, Air Force Audit Agency, provides Air Force units at Kadena with independent, objective and quality audit services. These services focus on reviewing and promoting economy, effectiveness and efficiency of operations; evaluating programs and activities; and assisting management in achieving intended results.
