The annual Air Force Assistance Fund campaign kicks off March 25-May 3, giving us all another opportunity to help our fellow wingmen when they need it most.

The AFAF campaign supports four charities that are dedicated to caring for Airmen from induction through retirement and beyond.

The four charities are the Air Force Aid Society, General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation, the Air Force Village, and the Air Force Enlisted Village. These aren't charities you'll see in your CFC lineup. They are an example of Air Force people taking care of their own -- Airmen helping Airmen. Our annual campaign demonstrates this fact that Airmen take care of our own!

Our base goal for this year is $118,534, and a key worker will visit your work center to educate you about the charities, answer any questions, and give you the opportunity to donate if you choose. You can also participate in fundraising events as a way of helping or donating -- either way, please get involved if you can! I invite our private organizations and units to be creative and have fun with your fundraisers for the AFAF over the next six weeks.

While the average Air Force base historically has between a 19 and 30-percent participation rate from their active-duty members, I believe Team Kadena is far above average! Chief Colon-Lopez and I hope that everyone considers giving to these four worthy charities. Just a few dollars a month from your paycheck will ensure your fellow Airmen will have the assistance they need when they need it most. And, you never know, you may just find in the future that you have "paid it forward," and our AFAF charities will be there for you should you need them.

Thank you for continuing our proud tradition in our " Commitment to Caring" by giving to the Air Force Assistance Fund.
