The Shogun Defenders, an 18th Security Forces Squadron booster club, hosted a father-daughter dance at the Schilling Community Center Feb. 16.

"This is our second annual father-daughter dance," said Senior Airman Quintin Camp, 18th SFS Shogun Defenders vice president. "We put on this event to have the fathers and daughters spend time with each other and have some fun."

After a successful father-daughter dance in 2012, the Shogun Defenders received positive feedback and requests for another dance, said Airman 1st Class Cody Opfar, 18th SFS Shogun Defenders secretary.

Approximately 180 people attended the event.

"This is my daughter's first official date," said Maj. John Nolan, 18th Logistics Readiness Squadron operations officer. "We are very appreciative of the Defenders putting this event on for us as this is our first (father-daughter dance), but definitely not our last."

"It was nice to see a good turnout," Camp said. "This is something small we can give so the fathers and daughters can spend time together."

Not only were fathers and daughters present, but mothers and sons were invited to attend.

"Spending time with my son is very important," Opfar said. "Being a cop, we work long-hour days, so that time we do get with family is very meaningful."

At the event, there was a scavenger hunt, a cake walk, and a cupcake decoration station set up where people sponsored various baked goods, Camp said. A photographer also took photos of the attendees.

The event, the music and the photography were "a great opportunity to get dressed up and bring my daughter out with the other fathers and show our daughters a great time," Nolan added.

Opfar said the Defenders are trying to make the father-daughter dance an annual event and a tradition the 18th SFS puts on to give back to the 18th Wing.
