The Risner Fitness Center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of its new 24-hour Functional Fitness facility, or F3.

The open air facility houses pull-up bars, climbing ropes and still rings while an attached equipment storage area houses medicine balls and other functional fitness equipment.

"Risner's F3 offers much needed additional space, expanding fitness opportunities," said Gordon Murdock, 18th Force Support Squadron marketing director. "Additionally, functional fitness equipment addresses a need many in the community have for extreme fitness not otherwise available in the main building."

Functional fitness programs focus on building strength, speed, agility and stamina through exercises like squats and pull-ups that mimic the human body's everyday movements.

Since the facility is open air, those seeking to use the F3 may come and go as they please. The equipment storage area will be open for several hours during high-traffic times and will be locked during evening hours with a key available for check out at the Risner front desk.

"The Risner staff is evaluating use and is exploring adding additional functional fitness classes as part of their group exercise lineup," Murdock said.
