Okinawa City residents celebrate Kikushu
Shizuko Yara, an Okinawa City resident, says a prayer during Kikushu on Kadena Air Base, Japan, Oct. 2, 2014. Kikushu is a Japanese tradition in which community members gather in a common space to offer food to their ancestors and pray for the prosperity of their families and a successful harvest. A picnic is traditionally held afterward so community members can share a meal with the spirits of their ancestors. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Zade C. Vadnais/Released)
