Kadena honors National Flag Day

Kadena Honor Guard members lower the flags during the National Flag Day ceremony on Kadena Air Base, Japan, June 15, 2015. The ceremony included a decommissioning of an American flag by honor guard personnel, which was retired along with other flags toward the end of the event. Retired flags are destroyed according to the United States Flag Code which states, "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.
