7/7/2010 - KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- To submit an announcement for the base bulletin, please email a short paragraph (NOT bullets) containing essential information (who, what, when, where, why, how) to kadena.basebulletin@kadena.af.mil.

Announcements typically run for two weeks beginning two weeks prior to an event. Submissions must be received by 5 p.m. on Tuesday to be included in the weekly bulletin email sent on Wednesday.

NO FEDERAL ENDORSEMENT OF PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS OR ACTIVITIES IS INTENDED.

NOTICES

AFN looking for focus groups
The AFRTS Radio and Television Prod¬uction Office needs your help. They will be conducting focus groups on July 14th/15th right here on Okinawa. It's your opportunity to tell AFRTS what you think about the programming. Focus groups will be comprised of all ranks and services, family members and DoD civilians. Members selected to participate need to have a good understanding the purpose of AFN. To volunteer to be a focus group member call MSgt Barker at 645-7589 or email her at Dorlinda.barker@kadena.af.mil.


HWAP Manager Training
A Hazardous Waste Accumulation Point Manager's Training Class will be held July 15 at the Natural Resources office, Bldg 3621 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission to the class for Primary and Alternate Accumulation Point Managers requires a copy of the current appointment letter. Individual letters are required for recordkeeping purposes so one letter admits one student. Unit Environmental Coordinators also require a current appointment letter. Supervisors who are required to attend but are not active in the management of the accumulation point and personnel taking the class for familiarization may attend without documentation. There will be a final exam at the end of the class. Questions should be directed to Mr. Mumper at 634-2117.


Kadena Honor Guard training
The Kadena Honor Guard will have their next training flight July 21 - August 4 at Bldg. 3445. The initial Honor Guard briefing (Orientation) will be held July 20 at 3:30 p.m. Training is conducted from weekdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and from 2-6:30 p.m. Wednesdays. People interested in becoming a member of the Kadena Honor Guard or who are looking for more information should go to https://kadena.eim.pacaf.af.mil/sites/KHG/default.aspx and sign up via the "Prospective Members" link.


Gate 5 closure, road taxes
Gate 5 will remain closed until the next school year starts. Also, people who have not paid their 2010 road tax will now be issued traffic citations and their vehicle will be impounded.


After hours dental emergencies
The dental officer's on-call cell phone number is 080-2721-0412 and pager is pager is 639-2324. If you are sent to voicemail during this call, please leave your name and phone number so that we can get back to you promptly. If you are not contacted within 30 minutes, please go to Camp Lester's emergency room for assistance.


LRS protective equipment service hour changes
The 18th LRS Individual Protective Equipment section has new customer service hours: Monday through Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.


Postal Advisory
Did you know while enjoying the free Military Postal Service (MPS) mail delivery service in the Pacific, Europe and Middle East that you cannot use USPS Priority/Express boxes going to any APO zip codes? It is prohibited to wrap USPS Priority boxes in brown paper and/or turning it inside out to send items to an APO address. Postal customers can mail parcels up to 70 pounds free to any APO/FPO in Europe and Pacific excluding Hawaii, Guam, and Alaska, using regular brown boxes and not USPS Priority boxes. If you have questions, call MSgt Anthony Smith at 634-3244.


Earth Day meeting
To ensure the success of next year's Earth Day celebration, Natural Resources Management is forming an Earth Week 2011 Committee to plan and organize activities and events for next April. The Committee is open to everyone, including family members. The first meeting will be Thursday, July 8 at 10 a.m. in Bldg. 3621. Annual water quality reports
The 2009 Consumer Confidence Reports for Kadena's water is now available at http://www.kadena.af.mil. The CCRs are intended to increase consumer knowledge of drinking water quality, sources, susceptibility, treatment, and drinking water supply management. People may also pick up a hard copy of the CCR at the DoD Family Housing Office on Kadena. For more information, call the Bioenvironmental Engineering Flight at 634-4752.


18th Medical Group closure
The 18th Medical Group will be closed Thursday, July 8 for readiness training from noon to 5 p.m. For emergencies, call 911 on base, 119 off base, or go directly to the Camp Lester U.S. Naval Hospital Emergency Department.


Finance office announcements
Early closure: The Finance office will be closing at noon July 12 for the unit's change of command ceremony. For frequently asked questions, deployment calculators, etc., please reference the AF Portal Money- Virtual Finance Link located under the Life and Career Tab or email our customer service inquiry box, 18cpts.customerinquiries@kadena.af.mil.

Misplaced mail: All active duty Airmen stationed at Kadena should have recently received through the USPS your yearly Personal Statement of Military Compensation, which outlines the total value or your military pay, allowances and benefits. The Kadena Finance Office has received several returned statements due to member's current mailing address not being updated on MyPay. Finance will hold these returned statements until July 15, then they will be shredded. Please pick up your statement at the finance office if this applies to you.

The base chapel hosts a marriage retreat July 13-15 at the Loisir Hotel in

Charity golf tourney
The National Defense Transportation Association is hosting a charity golf tournament on July 19 at the Banyan Tree Golf Course. All tournament proceeds will be donated to the Okinawa Southern Medical Center and Children's Medical Center Family Home "Gajumaru no Ie" (similar to the military's Fisher House). This event is open for military as well as local nationals who wish to participate. For more details, contact Capt. AF Marathon sponsorship
The 2010 Air Force Marathon will take place September 18 at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH, and PACAF is looking to sponsor two males and two females at this event. Individuals interested in representing PACAF must submit an AF Form 303 to Risner Fitness Center by July 16. For further information, call 634-5128 or visit www.usafmarathon.com.


Air Force Sergeants Association Membership Drive
AFSA Chapter 1553 will have a membership drive at the Kadena base exchange from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. July 14-16. If you would like to find out more about AFSA, it legislative initiatives or current retired and veteran affairs, please stop by and see us!


Summer Cheer Camp
Eagles All-Star Cheer is hosting summer cheer camps at Kadena's Risner Gym July 22-24th. There is a "Mommy & Me Camp" for kids ages 3-5 (a parent/adult must be present), a "Pee-Wee Camp" for kids ages 6-9, and a "Youth/Teen Camp" for kids ages 10-18. The "Mommy & Me" and "Pee-Wee" camps are from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and cost $40 per participant. The "Youth/Teen" Camp is from noon to 3 p.m. and costs $80 (includes free t-shirt). Deployed Spouses Dinner
A FREE dinner, open to all spouses and children of deployed or TDY servicemembers, is held the 3rd Saturday of every month at the Schilling Community Center for spouses of deployed servicemembers. This month's dinner is scheduled for July 17 beginning at 6 p.m. in the Schilling Ballroom. Childcare is available on-site and registration starts at 5:30 p.m. at the door. This is a great opportunity to network and meet other spouses in similar situations. Make a reservation for the dinner by calling 634-3366.


POW/MIA fundraiser run
The Air Force Sergeants Association will host a POW/MIA 5K Remembrance Run July 23. It is open to all services and dependents. Registration begins at 5:45 a.m. at the Risner Fitness Center and is scheduled to start at 6:30 a.m. Cost of the event is $5. All proceeds will be used for the POW/MIA event in September. Longboard around Okinawa
There is a group of people planning to skateboard around Okinawa the first week of August. If interested or for information, email ask_fabian@yahoo.com.


Volleyball camp
The Okinawa Volleyball Academy hosts Coach David Lacar as he conducts his second annual volleyball camp for Okinawa girls and boys from age 10-19.
