2012 Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony

2012 Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony
Eiichiro Shimabukuro from the Airman and Family Readiness Center received the Angel Award in the civilian local national category during the 2012 Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony at the Rocker NCO Club April 17, 2012, at Kadena Air Base, Japan. Shimabukuro teaches and prepares weekly Sanshin classes at the AFRC. He also serves as a liaison between Okinawans and Americans with his extensive knowledge and skills. 2012 Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony
Cheryl Karnes from the Kadena Chapel received the Angel Award in the family member category during the 2012 Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony at the Rocker NCO Club April 17, 2012, at Kadena Air Base, Japan. Karnes has volunteered more than 700 hours, and saved the Air Force more than $31,000 through volunteering. She volunteers to cook, train, recruit and encourage others. 2012 Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony
David Knight from Kadena Elementary School received the Angel Award Winner in the civilian employee category during the 2012 Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony at the Rocker NCO Club April 17, 2012, at Kadena Air Base, Japan. Knight has volunteered more than 600 hours as the director of Kadena’s Wired Bean working with 5,400 dorm residents. He also led airmen in various service projects including landscaping at a local school and supporting chapel marriage and family events. He has volunteered at least five hours every day since the September 2011 opening of the facility for unaccompanied Airmen and ensuring that they had an alcohol-free alternative. Senior Airman Jaime Compean, 18th Contracting Squadron, received the Angel Award in the active duty category during the 2012 Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony at the Rocker NCO Club April 17, 2012, at Kadena Air Base, Japan. He has volunteer activities include Kadena Special Olympics Awards chairman, Airmen Against Drunk Driving vice president, Air Force Sergeants Association Legislative Committee member, Airmen Committed to Excellence member and Kadena Youth and School Programs mentor. Yadira Call was named the Kadena Chapel Protestant Parish Outstanding Volunteer of the Year during the 2012 Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony at the Rocker NCO Club April 17, 2012, at Kadena Air Base, Japan. She volunteered 216 hours within the last five months volunteering with women and children in the Kadena Chapel Community. As President of the Kadena Chapel Protestant Women’s Ministry, she led over 775 women and mentored 470 volunteers who have in turn served more than 1,700 hours in women’s ministry and hosted over 90 chapel wing events and retreats.
