Team Kadena and their family members are now able to read about KAB and the latest breaking news on Okinawa and Air Force-wide from anywhere in the world.

Kadena's Web site, http://www.kadena.af.mil, will now contain news, features, community notes, briefs, sports and more as they are featured in the Shogun newspaper.

The 18th Wing Public Affairs Office will monitor and maintain the site daily with a 24-hour news cycle instead of once-a-week-only news in the base newspaper.
"This is an exciting time in the realm of Air Force public affairs and how information is being disseminated immediately," said Maj. Dani Johnson, 18th Wing Public Affairs chief.

"What we're doing at Kadena mirrors what the rest of the Air Force is doing in strategic communication and following Air Force Smart Operations 21 principles," she said.

"Team Kadena members will be able to see what is going on here if they are deployed and their families and friends back home can see what their loved ones are doing here for the Air Force and 18th Wing missions," Major Johnson said.

The Shogun will remain in print for a period of time, although with the focus on the Web site, there will be a reduction in the number of pages and most information will be found on the Web site.

The design of the site is tailored after Air Force Link and will have links to Air Force Link as well as external sites such as Air Force Personnel Center, AF Crossroads, Citizen Airman, Defense Link and AAFES.

Some of the internal sites will include 18th Services, American Forces Network TV scheduling, TRICARE, DoDDS, local information and weather.

The new Air Force Public Information Management System concept is geared toward strategic communication and getting news from Kadena to a worldwide audience and bringing worldwide Air Force news to Team Kadena along with local news.

The new system will also better enhance security measures with all base Web sites by moving to a secured server to avoid hacker and cyberspace attacks.

"We welcome any feedback on the site to ensure we have the information available for Team Kadena and their families," said Major Johnson.
