HH-60 maintenance keeps aircraft flying
U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Scott Okamoto, 33rd Helicopter Maintenance Unit crew chief, helps assemble the main transmission of an HH-60 Pave Hawk on Kadena Air Base, Japan, Sept. 3, 2014. The aircraft’s previous main transmission was found to be damaged during a phase inspection, requiring Airmen to assemble a new one. A phase inspection involves taking the aircraft apart, identifying and repairing any damage, replacing any unserviceable parts and putting it back together after every 600 hours of flying time. HH-60 maintenance keeps aircraft flying
U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Robert Yenick, 18th Equipment Maintenance Squadron structural maintenance journeyman, installs rivets onto the sliding cargo door track of an HH-60 Pave Hawk on Kadena Air Base, Japan, Sept. 3, 2014. The installation was done as part of a phase inspection, which involves taking the aircraft apart, identifying and repairing any damage, replacing any unserviceable parts and putting it back together again every 600 hours of flying time. Kadena O'Club hosts Women's Leadership Panel
More than 25 airmen attend a Women's Leadership Panel on Kadena Air Base, Japan, Sept. 3, 2014. The Kadena Company Grade Officers Council and the Air Force Women Officers Association hosted a Women's Leadership Panel for Airmen to come and listen to what its been like for these high-ranking females during their career in the Air Force. Sudan 'Lost Boy' serves as Kadena NCO
U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Madut Bul, 33rd Helicopter Maintenance Unit supply specialist, was labeled a 'Lost Boy' by the United Nations as a teenager. A Sudan native, Bul trekked more than 1,000 miles by foot along with roughly 30,000 other children in the early 1990s to escape the destruction and mayhem of civil war. Despite witnessing horrors most can't imagine, Bul joined the U.S. Air Force approximately eight years ago, and now uses his story to be an inspiration and testament to resilience.
